Abstract. The article is devoted to the theoretical understanding of the problem of rural migrants’ social adaptation, which is particularly relevant in the context of the urbanization crisis. To achieve the research objective the author conducts the meaningful analysis of the social adaptation concept. The paper argues that adaptation occurs through the assimilation of the norms, roles and practices of interaction with the host community, there are at least three ways of social adaptation. The author concludes that the further study should focus on analyzing the role of "rural" practices in the urban environment and consider the problem of the transformation of rural migrants’ original identity.
