K. K. TVERSKOI’S PERFORMANCE "THE BREAK-UP" (THE BOLSHOI DRAMA THEATRE, 1927): PLOT, GENRE, COMPOSITION, WAY OF ACTOR’S EXISTENCE

Abstract. The article is devoted to the reconstruction and analysis of the poetic style of K. K. Tverskoi’s performance "The Break-up" based on B. A. Lavrenyov’s play (The Bolshoi Drama Theatre, 1927, artist M. Z. Levin). The figure of Tverskoi, one of the leading directors in Leningrad of the 1920-1930s, is overlooked by researchers; Tverskoi’s contribution to the scenic history of Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theatre, where the director was invited to make a production of "The Break-up" and where he served from 1927 to 1935, has not been studied enough either. In the work, the plot and genre nature of the performance, its scenographic solution, the composition peculiarities, the principles of communication between the stage and the audience, the specificity of working with the actors are analysed. On this basis, an attempt to formulate some characteristics of the director’s methodology by Tverskoi is made.
