PECULIARITIES OF THE FINANCIAL PROVISION OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCHMEN IN VORONEZH AND ZADONSK EPARCHY ON THE EVE OF GREAT REFORMS

Abstract. In the article, the financial situation of the Orthodox clergy in Voronezh and Zadonsk Eparchy on the eve of the Great Reforms of the Emperor Alexander II is analyzed. On the basis of archival and published sources, the peculiarities of the material security of the parish clergy in the conditions of Russia modernization are revealed, and the sources of the Orthodox clergy’s income are analyzed. The author concludes that the difficulties of the everyday life of the clergy associated with insufficient financial provision, which had manifested clearly by the middle of the XIX century, required a radical transformation of church life.
