Abstract. The article summarizes approaches to studying myth in science. P. P. Ershov’s works are examined from the viewpoint of the Russian romanticism philosophy. The paper provides a comparative analysis of the categories "myth" and "reality" in the writer’s creative work. His lyrical and prosaic works are analysed in the context of the mytho-poetical conception. Binary oppositions indicate struggle of good and evil in a human being. P. Ershov’s artistic world is mythological harmony between a human and the nature. Formation of personages’ spiritual values occurs through hard experience, through conflict with the world.
