Abstract. The article analyses a professional jazz vocalists stage-by-stage formation and development in the process of higher musical education. The paper considers the problem of students low interest in studying vocal jazz in comparison with pop music. According to the author, relevant educational tasks in the process of teaching vocal jazz should include regular performance tasks focused on gradual adoption of jazz compositions, and the level of a students vocal and jazz competence depends on his efficient work with a teacher over the whole study period under the condition of strictly organized educational process.
