Timbre Imitation in the Russian Music of the Second Half of the XX Century

Abstract. The article examines timbre imitation as a composer’s technique widely represented in the creative work of the Russian composers of the second half of the XX century. Developing theoretical provisions of E. A. Ruchevskaya, who considered timbre imitation in the context of musical thematism, the author identifies two approaches in developing this technique: traditional one based on replacement of timbre with intonation thematic models and universal sound forms and sonorous-colouristic one associated with sound modelling, creating a sound sonorous image.
