Abstract. The paper aims to reveal ontological essence of revolutionary underground in F. M. Dostoevsky’s novel "Demons". Underground is considered as an anti-spiritual and anti-social system destroying the society as integral whole through "existential-ideological extremism" (at the level of spiritual values). Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that relying on conceptual provisions of S. L. Frank’s "conciliar theory", the researcher provides a systemic analysis of ontological aspects of revolutionary underground by the material of the novel "Demons". The findings indicate that revolutionary underground is described as a poorly integrated, fear-based structure that replaces conciliarism with socio-ontological vacuum in which extremism against sacred (spiritual and moral) principles of the society ("existential-ideological extremism") is a basic instrument of gradual social destruction.
