Abstract. The paper analyses compositions for the violin and chamber ensemble by Masalim Musharapovich Valeev (1888-1956), one of the founders of the Bashkir professional music. The analysis is conducted from the viewpoint of interaction of the traditional violin literature and the Bashkir musical folklore. The researchers examine compositions of different genres: instrumental piece, violin miniature, concert piece, string quartet, string quintet. Scientific originality of the study is conditioned by the fact that the problem of the Bashkir violin literature formation has not been previously investigated and also by the fact that Valeev’s works have not been previously subjected to a musicological analysis. The findings indicate that Valeev can be regarded as a father of the violin literature genres, string chamber ensemble music. Relying on the authorial method of folklore interpretation called "ethnographic folklorism", Valeev takes radical steps towards "adapted" folklorism that presupposes professional compositorial interpretation of folkloric material.
