Furniture Complexes of Lecture Halls in Educational Institutions of St. Petersburg at the Turn of the XIX-XX Centuries

Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the history of the furniture complexes of lecture halls in St. Petersburg at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries and their role in the organisation of educational space that meets the needs of the laboratory method of teaching. The purpose of the study is to compile an iconographic series based on available information about design and construction of lecture halls. Scientific novelty lies in analysing composition of a furniture complex as a part of an architectural ensem-ble. As a result, the necessity of preserving such historical ensembles in their entirety as unique conceptual spaces is proved.
