OVID’S “METAMORPHOSES”: TRANSFORMATIONS INTO TREES

Abstract.
Transformations into trees in Ovid’s poem “Metamorphoses” are examined in this article. The original text of the poem, Fet’s and Shervinskii’s translations were the research material. Various cases of these transformations in terms of the place taken by metamorphosis product in the world order are considered. Main attention is paid to the study of two transformations cases into unnamed trees: the Heliades’ and the Bacchantes’ transformations. The analysis of these transformations showed that the author of the poem didn’t want to emblematize the transformed characters, that is why he didn’t name the trees.
