Abstract.
The article highlights the main stages of the domestic breeding organizational structure formation. As its most important elements the author considers the creation of own breeding base, forming the net of state breeding nurseries and farms, the introduction of state studbooks, the breeding records of productive livestock, the planned character of selection and breeding work. The chief state actions that contributed to the development of livestock breeding and breeding as a whole in Ukraine are summarized.
