Abstract. The article discusses the issue about the necessity of students’ self-dependent efforts in the process of the formation of the lexical skill of linguistic competence when studying foreign languages. In this regard some of the psychological aspects of memory work contributing to foreign words memorization are mentioned. The authors formulate the conclusions that are clear and easy to apply in practice when studying new vocabulary.
