Abstract.
The article reveals the peculiarity of the imaginative musical lexicon of William Byrd’s didactic anthems. The meaning of the composer’s anthem oeuvre and its musical rhetorical specific in the context of interaction between the English and the Italian madrigal cultures are considered. The scope and extent of using musical rhetorical means corresponding to the tutorial tone of the verbal texts of the anthems are identified.
