Abstract.
This article studies a geopolitical situation concerning the Ukrainian ethnos in terms of L. N. Gumilev’s ethnogeny conception. The idea of creating the Eurasian Union in contrast to the European one is considered and a thesis that Ukraine will play its part in it is advanced. Moreover, the passionary impetus of the XVIII century, which was not described by Lev Nikolaevich in his main works, but was mentioned in one of his interviews, is studied.
