Abstract.
The article undertakes an attempt to reveal the specificity of the religious and philosophical reflection of S. L. Frank devoted to the problem of theodicy. By virtue of the peculiar interpretation of religious texts his doctrine of theodicy has paradoxical nature. The emphasis on the incomprehensibility and transrationality of the problem of the origin of evil is relatively new. Evil is devoid of true being, and it is illusory reality. Therefore, the problem of theodicy cannot be solved rationally due to its fundamental essence-necessary insolvability.
