GREAT DUCHY OF WARSAW AND CIVIL CODE OF NAPOLEON

Abstract. The article is devoted to the events of the period between 1806 and 1812. Having defeated the French coalition forces in 1807 and in order to create a powerful outpost of the empire in the east of Europe Napoleon I created Duchy of Warsaw from the Polish lands seized from Russia, Austria and Prussia, which was semi-independent from France. The author tells about the evolution of the views of Napoleon I on the Polish issue, his struggle with Russia for the opportunity to hold Poland in his sphere of influence, and the constitution of Duchy of Warsaw and its polity.
