LEGION BATTLE ORDER IN THE PERIOD OF THE SEVERI’S RULE

Abstract.
At the beginning of the III century the legion structure didn’t practically differ from the structure of the legion of the Late Republic. This issue was made clear through the graphic symbols found on some inscriptions. It was suggested that these symbols corresponding to six ranks of centurions in each cohort should point to the century place on the battlefield, which allowed talking about certain continuity with the manipular order of the Republican era that existed in the III century.
