Abstract.
This article discusses the methods of the analysis of the traditional national costume as a creative source for the design of modern clothes. The focus of attention is on the choice of methodology and on the nature of the research objectives. The results of designing are shown by the example of the Russian folk costume. The authors conclude that the comprehensive ethnocultural analysis of the national costume promotes the qualitative designing of clothes in ethnic style.
