Abstract. The article reveals the interconnection between the kinematic method of surfaces formation in descriptive geometry and the kinematics of metal-cutting machines. The trajectory of the total movements of the effectors of the machine must ensure the forms of the lines making the engineered surface of the processed part. Depending on the variety of the lines creating the surface and their interconnections various types of metal-working machines are used.
