Abstract.
The article discusses the problem of the deformation of phraseological units. It describes the structural-semantic models of deformed phraseological units. It also analyzes the mechanism of the actualization of the potential meaning of words as a way of creating a special communicative effect. The paper concludes that this effect is achieved with the help of various semantic modifications of the system meaning of lexemes for the purpose of the self-preservation of the semantic structure of utterances.
