NOTION OF “TURN” IN CONTEMPORARY STUDIES OF VISUAL CULTURE

Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the notion “turn” widely used in the contemporary studies of visual culture. In particular, attention is paid to the conceptions of visual, pictorial and iconic turns. These concepts, being close in meaning, at the same time differ substantially. The clarification of differences between them allows understanding more deeply the tendencies in the development of the contemporary science on culture.
