Abstract. Ruled surfaces are often used while actually modeling technical forms. However the presentation of this kind of material in academic courses does not satisfy the modern state of descriptive geometry. The majority of textbooks do not cover important issues associated with the practice of the ruled surface construction. The article examines the material, which would be reasonable to include into academic courses because its understanding will help students in their future professional activity.
