Abstract.
The article deals with the phenomenon of the competition of affixes by the example of zero and materially expressed suffixes as components of the morphemes set of the most productive in the modern Russian language word-formative categories. The author attempts to determine the reasons for the speaker’s communicative choice of derivatives with explicit or implicit basic word-formative means.
