Abstract.
The article is devoted to the issue of a text subject in fiction prose. Fiction text is considered from the viewpoint of reference of the utterance subjects to the areas of dictum and modus. Typical sentence patterns that characterize separate personages and the narrator are noted. The novel by Yu. K. Olesha “Envy” has become material for the analysis of various types of subject organization within one work.
