CATEGORIES “GOD” AND “LOVE” IN L. N. TOLSTOY’S UNDERSTANDING

Abstract.
The article deals with such categories as “love” and “God” in understanding of the great Russian thinker and writer Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy. At the heart of Christian motives that pass through the entire creativity of Lev Nikolaevich there is love for one’s neighbor and faith in God. L. N. Tolstoy ascertains that one is impossible without the other and that these spiritual categories are the first principle of the life of a believer. The author emphasizes that cognition of God occurs through mind and love, and focuses on the method of reasonable faith in the writer’s arguments.
