Abstract.
For competitions in game sports a variety of tournament formulae is typical, and often one or another formula causes subjective discussions about its fairness. In this paper the author introduces objective mathematical concepts of fairness and completeness of the tournament formula based on the theory of binary relations, discusses their main properties, suggests methodology for calculating these characteristics based on the imitation approach to modeling and gives examples of such calculations.
