Abstract. The main positions of the theoretical concept of the Russian art historian, Stepan Petrovich Shevirev (1806-1864) are considered in the article. The concept explains the objective laws of historical development of some kinds of art of different peoples and the reasons of contiguous change of dominating types in the whole context of world artistic culture.
