Abstract.
The stages of carrying out the judicial reform in the Russian Federation since 1991 are investigated. The legislative basis of its realization is analysed in the article. The success and failures of the reform and the perspectives of the development of judicial system and of the improvement of quality and efficiency of its activity with the purpose of the rights protection and freedom of a person are considered.
