SCANDINAVIAN PAINTERS AND RUSSIAN ARTISTIC CULTURE OF THE TURN OF THE XIX-XXTH CENTURIES

Abstract.
The critical epoch of the XIX-XXth centuries changed the conception of the interaction between Russian and West European art. To overcome the isolation of Russian culture it was necessary to aquaint Russian artists and society with the state of foreign art. The exhibitions of Scandinavian artists organized at the end of the XIXth century revealed the national-romantic art of the north neighbours of Russia and gave "the example of joining the all-European way of development without the loss of national peculiarities". Scandinavian influence made its mark in Russian architecture at the turn of the centuries, especially in the north capital. The acquaintance with the achievements of Scandinavian art expanded the creative opportunities and allowed Russian artists participating in the most significant events of artistic life of the turn of the centuries.
