Abstract.
The article reveals Soviet state disintegration historic-political processes at the end of the 1980s - the beginning of the 1990s on the basis of republican legal press materials, when the question about the state-legal status of the USSR union republics and the Russian Federation autonomous republics became topical. Kareliya Republic actively participated in discussing the questions of signing Federative and Union contracts during the above-mentioned period. The pursuit to get maximum independence (limited sovereignty) led to the adoption of the Declaration about Kareliya state sovereignty - the political-legal act which determined the Republic place in Union and Russian geo-political space.
