Abstract.
The author researches the mutual relations of authorities and artistic intellectuals of Leningrad under the new conditions which formed after the XXth congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, comprehensively characterizes the first attempts of creative figures to rethink former cultural-ideological guidelines and to expand the subject matter of their works and considers the counter-measures undertaken by party management with the purpose of calling to order some figures of literature and art and also the new methods of intellectuals' mobilization for the solution of cultural-ideological tasks.
