Abstract. The article is devoted to the contradictions of the customs system of Russia which took place in the first half of the XVIIIth century. Special attention is paid to the questions of transit and Russian-Eastern trade, to the existence of various state approaches to the customs regulation of foreign trade of Russia with European and Asian countries, to the offers of Astrakhan' governor V. N. Tatishchev concerning the perfection of the customs policy of Russia.
