Abstract.
The article is devoted to the ethnographic researches of Chukchi's material culture by the example of traditional clothes. The main task was the determination of the regional variants of Chukchi's clothes and the revelation of the reasons of their formation. The material for the research is the collections of the local history museums of Far East which funds have been formed since the end of the XIXth century. The analysis of the state of the clothes of indigenous peoples of Chukchi Peninsula shows the steady traditions of local cultures caused by natural-climatic conditions, economical activity and spiritual practices. The author reveals the reasons of the originality of ritual clothes in different regions of Chukchi Peninsula. The innovations in the material culture of the local groups of Chukchi of the last three centuries are the source of studying the ethno-genesis of the autochthonous cultures of North-Eastern Asia.
