Abstract.
The article reveals the features of the interrelations of consuls and sailors of merchant ships of the Russian Empire (the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth centuries). The author pays special attention to the public-legal functions of a captain which concerned the activity of the Russian consul as well.
