Abstract. The author analyzes the stereotypes of matrimonial relations and gender ideals in Russia of the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth centuries by the example of A. P. Chekhov's prose. Family model in the writer's creativity is considered as both social microcosm and the research of the everyday life of that period.
