NEW AGE IDEAS ORIGIN PRECONDITIONS FORMATION IN AMERICAN SOCIETY OF THE XIXTH CENTURY

Abstract. New Age is the social-cultural phenomenon comprising the mixture of the elements of eastern and western cultures. The author considers a number of trends (theosophy, mesmerism, spiritual curative traditions) which seriously influenced the cultural paradigm of the American society of the XIXth century and thus created the preconditions for New Age origin and pays special attention to the social-cultural features of the American society which influenced the mass distribution of new ideas.
