Abstract. The author presents different points of view on the controversial question of criminal investigation process periodization, suggests solving this contentious question via the delimitation of the later investigation stage from the initial one, pays special attention to the tactical features of certain investigative actions (investigative experiment, evidence verification on the spot, face-to-face confrontation) at the later stage of crimes investigation committed in the sphere of precious metals and stones illegal trafficking; and proposes to clarify and amend the formulations of item 3 of article 194 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.
