Abstract. The author analyzes the key stages of the development of the topics Neuf Preux (Nine Heroes) and uomini famosi (famous men) in fine arts of late Middle Ages and Northern Renaissance, and, basing on the analysis of monuments (engravings, tapestries, frescoes) and iconographic sources (texts devoted to heroes), presents the general scheme of two topics evolution during three centuries, from the originated in parallel phenomena of the XIVth century till their synthesis in the monuments of the XVIth century.
