Abstract.
The author analyzes the paintings of the Dutch artist of the XVIIth century Jan Vermeer from Delft with scientific attributes portrayal, considers the problem of painting and natural science interrelation in Dutch culture, studies in detail the maps used by Vermeer in the creation of his works, and demonstrates the wide range of sources from cartography field, some of which are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
