Abstract. The author discusses the topical questions of specific timbre formation in S. Gubaidulina's viola music, reveals S. Gubaidulina's creative contribution to the formation of the new timbre-images of viola sounding, and describes the wide range of timbre interpretation from sound impressionism to sound symbolism in chamber ensemble works and viola concerts.
