Abstract.
The authors analyze the problem of increasing single-engine, mainly training, aircrafts output for Air Force during the last pre-war years at Leningrad aviation plant № 23. The goal of the research is to publish the little-known materials on the production of training aircrafts U-2, UT-1, UT-2 and their modifications in 1938-1940. The fact that almost all training aircrafts (more than two thousands annually) were produced in Leningrad on the eve of the World War II has been known to only a relatively small circle of aviation historians until recently. In this regard, the published materials, including archives, may be of interest to both specialists and a wide circle of the journal readers.
