Abstract.
The author considers Durham Cathedral built immediately after the Norman conquest of England that undoubtedly had strong influence on its uniqueness. The monument is the result of two cultures confluence, so that its study is very interesting and topical, because in our times we can also observe the processes of different cultures interpenetration. Taking it into account the author considers Cathedral in Durham not just as the example of the Romanesque architecture, but as the example of Norman architectonics within England, shows that the building contains the features of those new elements that did not occur in the English cult architecture before it, and gives the opportunity to imagine its construction of the end of the XIth - the beginning of the XIIth century despite the fact that it is not preserved in its original state.
