Abstract.
The author discusses the symbolism and conditionality of Beijing opera art, which are indispensable for understanding the Chinese theater aesthetics that is an important factor in the current situation of the dialogue between cultures, for the first time presents the significance of some Beijing opera symbols, mentions that the symbolic conditionality of Beijing opera evolved over several centuries and became simple, understandable and natural for a spectator, and concludes that symbolism runs through the entire performance of Beijing opera - from costumes reflecting characters' status and social position till gestures indicating characters' actions.
