Abstract. The author analyzes one of the key episodes of the Italian Wars - the capture of Milan by the French in the struggle for hegemony within the Apennine peninsula, which resulted in the radical change in the forces balance in the camp of belligerent powers, and tells that the German King Maximilian I, having lost his main ally in the person of Lodovico Moro, was gradually losing ground in the battle for Italy, giving way to the confrontation of France and Spain.
