Abstract.
The author analyzes the change in the research attitudes to studying the phenomena of generation gap and counterculture, makes clear the interconnection between the two phenomena, differentiates their content, shows the mechanism of the connection in order to overcome the uncertainty in interpretations, when both the notions are used as synonyms, and comes to the conclusion about the independence of each of these phenomena, acquiring their interconnectedness only at the modernist stage of social development.
