Abstract.
The author reveals the establishment history and the role of the Committee on Agriculture Improvement in Russia in 1833 in the formation of the Agriculture Ministry of the Russian Empire, and pays particular attention to the activity of the Free Economic Society President N. S. Mordvinov, due to who the mentioned Committee appeared. The result of the Committee activity was a proposal to establish the Administration of Agricultural Institutions Executive Director with ministerial rights. Although the Committee proposals were not implemented, they served as a basis for the creation of the State Property Ministry, which eventually transformed into the Agriculture Ministry.
