Abstract.
The author analyzes the phenomenon of the popular perception of the cave as a symbol connecting the different modi of time, conducts the study basing on the folk recordings made within forest-steppe Don region involving archival materials and literary parallels, introduces a new range of sources into scientific circulation, presents the complex interpretation of certain folk stories based on the analysis of Don region population’s myth-making, and conducts the research in the context of the reference to human psyche unconscious sphere in its archetypal manifestations associated with the perception of time in the symbolism of cave space.
