INVESTIGATION AGAINST VALAAM FATHER SUPERIOR DAMASCENE

Abstract.
The author describes difficult intra-monastery relations in Valaam in the middle of the XIX
th century, considers a conflict situation, which occurred due to the investigation, instituted against Father Superior Damascene on some subordinates and monastery brethren’s information against him, basing on archival documents traces the investigation process, the interrelations of the Father Superior with the exiles, brethren; and also considers the participation of St. Petersburg Eparchy archpriest archimandrite Ignatius (Bryanchaninov) in the monastery conflict resolution and the reconciliation of Valaam brethren.
