BYZANTINE REMINISCENCES IN MURAL PAINTING OF CATHEDRAL CRYPT IN ANAGNI

Abstract. The author reveals the features of the Byzantine canon existence in the monumental painting of Latium of the first third of the XIII th century, by the example of the Roman suburb monument mural painting traces the main stages of the Romanesque school conversion to the Byzantine tradition: by means of the early Christian heritage, the Northern Italian and Southern Italian painting, by familiarity with the mosaic complex of Norman Sicily, and by orientation to the Palaeologus painting; and tells that the selected angle allows deepening the Byzantine experience reflection in the Romanesque artistic model.
