“AMENDMENT OF WILMOT” AS ONE OF POLITICAL PRECONDITIONS OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR (1861-1865)

Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of “Amendment of Wilmot” to the draft law on new territories annexation to the United States of America as a result of the Mexican war, and studies the question of its impact on the split of the country’s political forces, which later became one of the determinants of the American Civil war (1861-1865). The article also analyzes the positions of all the sides of the political conflict, which central issue was slavery and its distribution to the conquered territory.
